A mountain lion recently came awfully close to an Escondido home and the resident who caught it on surveillance is hoping the cat doesn't come back.
In Hidden Meadows, seeing a mountain lion isn't far-fetched but catching the whole thing on a home security camera is a different story.
Trisha Clay said she’s a little jumpy after spotting a mountain lion walking around on her driveway and her front yard three times in the last two weeks.
“It's scared me. Definitely scared me,” said Clay Tuesday.
The mountain lion, which Clay estimated to weigh at least 150 lbs ,walked across her driveway around 8:30 p.m.
The cat then casually walked around her front yard in between two planter boxes before leaving the property.
“I heard something first and I opened the window and peeked,” Clay said. “There it was right in front of the window right here.”
The Clays live on a Wimbleton Lane, a mountain top where neighbors say they see their share of wild animals.
“I've seen rattlesnakes and coyotes and rabbits,” said resident Chastity Waterford. “There's a lot of animals up here.”
“This is totally their environment,” she said. “If I come outside I'm in their territory.”
Clay has two sons and two dogs and said she’s worried for their safety. So far, she hasn’t reached out to the Department of Fish and Game but said if she sees the mountain lion on her property again, she will.
