A Southwest Airlines passenger who caused a disturbance on a flight from Los Angeles to Kansas City was arrested when the pilot made an emergency landing in Texas Tuesday.
Ali Reza Shahsauri, 29, was arrested at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport and was expected to be charged with nterfering with a flight crew, according to FBI Agent Mark White in Dallas.
Initial reports indicated the man tried to break into the cockpit. The man was believed to be California resident, but no hometown was given.
Southwest Flight 3683, with about 135 passengers aboard, landed in Amarillo about 3:45 p.m., airport director Patrick Rhodes said.
"We heard there was a problem from the air traffic controller about 3:30 p.m.," Rhodes said. "The original report was that a man had tried to break into the cockpit."
Rhodes said local police determined Shahsauri had been disruptive but did not try to break into the cockpit. Shahsauri surrendered peacefully, he said.
"It turned out to be kind of a non-event," he said. Shahsauri was taken to Randall County Jail for booking on charge of interfering with a flight crew.
The plane resumed its flight to Kansas City about 5 p.m., Rhodes said.
