Five Homicides in District Since Saturday

In a disturbing trend unfolding in the District, five homicides have occurred since Saturday.

Shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday, 21-year-old Davon Paul Gray was found unresponsive and unconscious, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The shooting took place in the 2500 block of High Street SE.

Gray's shooting began a 48-hour period of 5 homicides in the District's two eastern quadrants.

Metropolitan Police are investigating another fatal shooting that occurred at 1:30 a.m. Monday. Antonio Headspeth, 25, was found in the rear of the 1100 block of Stevens Road, SE suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was unresponsive and pronounced dead shortly after being found by police.

Early Monday morning, a stabbing occurred in the 1900 block of I Street Northeast. Jawan Parker, 31, was stabbed multiple times at around 1:30 a.m. and died in a nearby hospital from his injuries. Police suspect a black female in her late 20s, approximately 5'7'' tall. 

At around 8 p.m. Monday evening, a bicyclist was fatally shot in northeast in the 1600 block of Lincoln Road, in northeast D.C. Eric Kearney, 22, was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead.

Most recently, a man was shot and killed outside of King Gas Convenience in Southeast -- also on Monday evening.

Mohammed Abduselam, 37, was shot outside of the convenience store, his place of work, where he was finishing up his shift for the day. He was attempting to call 911 after seeing that a man entering the store had a gun. The man followed him outside and shot him.

The string of homicides has brought the total for the District to 91 this year. On this date last year, that number was at 105.  On Wednesday morning, all five cases still remain open.
