Some local lawmakers are adding their support to a proposal in Maryland to add 15 cents to the state gas tax.
Prince George's County Executive Rushern Baker and Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett, both supported the plan during a radio program on WTOP.
Gov. Martin O'Malley is asking a special session of the General Assembly to approve the increase.
The money would fund road construction, public transit and other transportation projects.
If approved, Maryland's tax on gasoline would be 38.5 cents, making it one of the 10 most expensive in the country.
