Slain Soldier to be Buried in Indiana Hometown

A 24-year-old army ranger who was killed in an October firefight in Afghanistan will be buried in his hometown of Gary, Ind., on Wednesday.

The funeral for U.S. Army Spc. Ricardo Cerros will take place at noon at the Cathedral of Holy Angels in Gary.

Cerros died in an Oct. 8 firefight with insurgents in the Logar Province of Afghanistan, Army officials said. He was a rifleman stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington.

Cerros moved from Gary to Salinas, Calif., when he was 5.

Police cars, fire trucks and more than 60 motorcyclists escorted the body of U.S. Army Spc. Ricardo Cerros to a Gary funeral home Monday.

Fellow soldiers, family and friends of Cerros paid their respects Tuesday at the Ridgelawn Funeral Home.
