Trolley Construction Projects Affect Passengers

Trolley Construction Projects Affect Passengers

Trolley station closures will impact thousands of public transportation riders and downtown motorists over the next two weekends.

As part of the $620 million project to upgrade the MTS trolley network, construction work will require the closures of eight downtown trolley stations.

Trolley station closures will begin at 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21 and will run through Sunday, Oct. 23. The same construction schedule will run throughout the following weekend.

Trolley stations affected by the projects include those between Old Town Transit Center and City College Transit Center. Passengers wishing to travel between these stations will have the option of taking a substitute shuttle bus service. Trolley service between Convention Center Station and America Plaza Station will also be interrupted. No substitute shuttle bus service will be provided for these stations.

Although transit officials want to assure riders that they will be able to get to their destinations in a timely manner despite the closures, they do recommend that passengers allow an extra 30 minutes for travel time during the construction weekends.

Construction crews are working to improve passenger and freight rail services on the Orange and Blue Lines over the next three years. The work will replace old rail and overhead wire, improve station amenities and improve switching and signaling.

With these improvements and more in the coming years, MTS hopes to offer passengers faster trips, better on-time performance and enhanced amenities for a more convenient experience.
