Renovations are in the works for Central Park's 21 playgrounds.
The group that manages Central Park is turning its attention to the playgrounds after spending 30 years restoring the park's seven meadows.
The Central Park Conservancy's announcement Tuesday did not put a price tag on the renovations or say which playgrounds would be revamped first.
The plans include preserving existing designs that are distinctive. But they'll also comply with changing safety standards.
Many of the playgrounds have creative elements like sprinklers and climbing walls. But conservancy officials tell The New York Times that the play spaces lack consistency.
Spokeswoman Dena Libner said the idea is to think of the playgrounds as part of the whole, instead of "fragmented resources'' for different neighborhoods.
