The funeral for a fallen Delaware officer will take place on Friday morning.
Services for slain New Castle County Police Sgt. Joseph Szcerba begin at 9 a.m. with a public viewing at the Chase Centner on the Riverfront in Wilmington. The viewing will be followed by a private Christian burial at 1 p.m.
Sgt. Szcerba, 44, was stabbed to death on September 16 while apprehending a suspect. He an 18 year veteran of the force.
David Salasky, 32, is charged with the murder.
Earlier this week, Szcerba was awarded New Castle County police department's Medal of Honor, marking the first time it's been given in the 98 year history of the department. He was also posthumously promoted to rank of lieutenant.
