A painful detour for people who use South Dakota Avenue in northeast D.C.
A water main break has closed the street in both directions between 20th and 18th streets. Water gushed from the broken pipe-- flooding a car and the basement of one nearby home.
The nearby Perry School has no water service.
DC water crews have cut water to the pipe, but it is unclear how long South Dakota Avenue will be closed.
