Suspicious Device Discovered Near Capitol Building

Capitol Police discovered a small metal cylinder on Pennsylvania Avenue NW near the reflecting pool in front of the U.S. Capitol.

An officer spotted the object around 7 a.m. Thursday.  Law enforcement said they are investigating the object as a suspicious device.

Surrounding roadways have been shut down for the investigation.  The affected roads: First Street NW from Garfield Cir. to Constitution Ave. and Pennsylvania Ave SE from First Street to 3rd street SE.

A U.S. Capitol police spokesperson told News4 a robot is being deployed.
