The Vista Unified school board trustees voted to move forward with a plan to split the district into five separate voting areas according to a published report.
The board voted 4-1 to approve a final map for the voting change Thursday night.
They also voted to seek a waiver from the state to avoid a public vote the North County Times reported.
Right now, the five members of the board have been elected by voters throughout the district no matter where they lived.
From now on, only those voters living within the candidate's zone will be able to cast votes for that seat.
