Prarie View A&M scored 21 fourth-quarter points behind backup quarterback Jonathan Troast to pull away from Grambling State 31-23 Saturday in the State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl. Troast replaced injured starter Jerry Lovelocke after halftime with the teams locked in a 3-3 tie.
With the Panthers (3-2, 3-1 Southwestern Athletic) trailing 10-3, Troast hit Greg Thurmond for a 33-yard touchdown pass to tie the game, then put Prarie View ahead for good, 17-10, with a 46-yard TD to Thurmond on the first play of the fourth quarter.
Troast added scoring throws of 22 yards to Spencer Nelson and 16 yards to Krys Watkins. Receiver Mario Louis scored two touchdowns for Grambling State (1-4, 1-3), and Dawrence Roberts added a 74-yard TD run.
