Closing Arguments Set in Wife's Murder Trial

Barbara Sheehan shot her husband to death with his loaded gun. The question the jury will have to answer in her murder trial is whether it was self-defense.

Closing arguments were set for Monday in the murder trial.

Prosecutors said Sheehan shot her husband, Raymond, 11 times, using two loaded guns he kept at the home. The retired NYPD sergeant was in the bathroom shaving at the time of the shooting, and had a loaded Glock on the vanity.

Sheehan was angry over her husband's infidelity and bizarre sexual habits and knew she would benefit from two life insurance policies, according to prosecutors. She and her children said she was regularly abused by her husband and she feared for her life.

The incident was touched off when Sheehan said she would not go on a Florida vacation with her husband. She testified that she was terrified because he had threatened her with the Glock and told her he was going to kill her if she didn't come.

She got his .38-caliber revolver from the bedroom while he was in the bathroom, and fired. Prosecutors say she also picked up the Glock and fired that weapon as well. She said she doesn't remember how many times she fired.
