Mental Health Professionals Offer Free Depression Screenings

Mental Health Professionals Offer Free Depression Screenings

The County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency is sponsoring a weeklong series of no-cost depression screenings.

From October 3-8, trained mental health volunteers will be available to administer depression screening tools to adults 18 years and older. Twenty-four sites across the county will be participating in the event in partnership with the Community Health Improvement Partners.

The screenings will consist of education on depression, completion of a written screening test and discussion of results with a mental health professional. Experienced mental health clinicians will be available to meet with those in need of referrals for additional help.

According to HHSA, 1 in 4 adults in San Diego County suffers from a mental disorder or difficulty. HHSA believes depression screenings should become a routine part of healthcare, similar to routine checkups for heart disease or diabetes.
