Inmate Saves Woman From Pit Bull, Gets Lighter Sentence

Inmate Saves Woman From Pit Bull, Gets Lighter Sentence

A Cape May County inmate is being hailed a hero after he saved a woman from an attacking pit bull, reports the Press of Atlantic City.

Authorities say Justin Peggs, 22, was working off a 45-day sentence at a local animal shelter when shelter employee, Kathleen James, was attacked by the dog, according to the Press.

The Press of Atlantic City reports that Peggs manhandled the pit while fellow employees pulled James to safety.

James’ thigh was injured in the attack. She received stitches and a tetanus shot.

The heroic act of the fearless inmate has not gone unnoticed. A judge has taken three days off of his sentence, according to the Press.

Peggs’ sentence was the result of a fight he was involved in on the Wildwood Boardwalk.

The pit bull has been put to sleep, reports the paper.
