A San Diego jury convicted a Connecticut man for the 1989 murder of Pacific Beach resident Ewing Scroggs on Monday.
The jury found Howard Dean Jamison, 51, guilty of Scroggs' murder.
Scroggs' body was found on December 10, 1989 by his family after what police described as a brutal attack.
In 2009 San Diego Police were able to get a lead on the case after the FBI made a match between Jamison's DNA he left at the crime scene and DNA he left during in unrelated crime in Connecticut, detectives said.
Police confirmed Jamison was in San Diego. One day after Scroggs' murder Jamison was arrested in San Diego and extradited back to Connecticut for a separate crime, detectives said.
Using the new evidence police were able to reopen the case. On Aug. 24, 2009, SDPD detectives, with assistance from Connecticut police arrested Jamison under suspicion of murder.
Jamison faces life in prison without the possibility of parole.
