A private memorial service is planned for Tuesday morning at Timberview High School in Mansfield after a car crash that killed one student and injured three others.
Carlos Marquez, 15, died Saturday night in the crash on Highway 360 in Grand Prairie, police said. He was on his way home from play practice.
His parents on Monday asked his 11-year-old brother to speak for the family.
"He was a really nice guy," Freddy Marquez said of his brother. "He'd be the type of guy you'd want to be friends with."
They were brothers -- but also friends.
"He was my best friend," Freddy Marquez said.
The scene of the accident is now a makeshift memorial. Classmates have brought flowers, handwritten signs and stuffed animals.
The driver, Kimberly Pimental, 17, and passengers, Isaiah Rodriguez, 15; and Flordeluna Flores, 15; remain hospitalized with serious injuries.
Speed was a factor in the crash, but there's no indication the teenagers were drinking, police said.
The tragedy is hitting Timberview hard. A young coach died suddenly of an apparent heart attack a week ago.
Carlos Marquez would have turned 16 on Monday.
His younger brother described him as a "really good person" -- a straight "A" student who wanted to be an engineer and was always polite.
"Every time you say something, like if you offer something, he'd say, 'No thank you,'" Freddie Marquez said. "It's hard for me. It leaves a hole in my heart that can never be filled in."
