Boyz II Men Releases 20th Anniversary Album

Motownphilly’s back again, doin’ a little east coast anniversary.

Philadelphia’s own Boyz II Men, one of the most successful R&B groups of all time, is celebrating its 20th Anniversary by releasing its new album “Twenty” Tuesday.

Yes, we’re that old.

A cappella harmony legends, Shawn Stockman, Nate Morris and Wanya Morris, are giving fans a little bit of the old and a little bit of the new.

The three singers, who used to be a quartet with retired member “Boy” Micheal McCary, wrote most of the songs in their new release, according to the Inquirer’s Jonathan Takiff.

“First time I heard this album, I thought there was way too much over-singing. That suggested the guys didn't have much confidence in their own material, didn't think romantic piners like "Will You Be There" and "So Amazing" really were. (And, um, they're not.)”

But Takiff says that there is also a lot of “prime-grade” Motown-flavored substance in this album, for those of us who knew them when they began and want to relive the "couples skate" at junior high roller rink parties and slow dances at high school proms.
