Tuesday marks the 80th anniversary of the George Washington Bridge.
The world's busiest crossing spans the Hudson River between New Jersey and New York City. It opened on this date in 1931 and a second lower level was built in 1962.
To mark the occasion, motorists will see the largest free-flying flag on the bridge's New Jersey tower and the bridge's two towers will be illuminated at night.
More than 300,000 vehicles cross the George Washington Bridge daily.
The bridge handled 102 million vehicles on its two levels, three toll plazas and 28 toll lanes in 2010.
