A dolphin suffering from a broken jaw was found Tuesday beached on the shore of Mission Bay.
The female dolphin appeared to have been injured for a few days at the very least SeaWorld San Diego staffers said.
The dolphin was discovered around 7:30 a.m. at the Santa Barbara Cove east of Mission Boulevard and north of Mission Bay Drive.
Because of the severity of the dolphin's injury, she couldn't eat and was malnourished.
She also suffered minor cuts to her skin which could have happened before or after she was injured.
Unfortunately, the experts at SeaWorld who are known for rescuing marine life along San Diego's coast said there was no chance of saving the dolphin even if they could get her back to their facilities alive.
While they did not have an age for the animal, they said she was young.
