Mayor Rahm Emanuel is keeping up the drum beat of job announcements.
At a Tuesday press event at Ernst & Young's offices on Wacker Drive, the mayor and accounting firm said 500 new jobs will be coming to Chicago by next summer.
Hiring for the positions will begin immediately, and the hired employees will work in all areas of the firm's business.
"These cutting-edge jobs that will be created by Ernst & Young are the exact type of jobs that will attract and retain the best and brightest to Chicago," Emanuel said in a statement.
Ernst & Young's Tony Anderson said Chicago has "provided a great home" and has a talented pool of employee candidates.
The announcement was the 12th such announcement Emanuel has made in his fewer than six months in office.
Last week, financial consulting firm Accenture said it would add 500 jobs to its Chicago headquarters and Merge Healthcare announced another 200. In September, Chicago-based SeatonCorp, a staffing and recruiting company, announced it would add 400 jobs to its roster.
The mayor also continues to tout the 1,100 jobs that could be coming to Ford's Torrence Avenue plant, but those are contingent upon company employees ratifying a new contract. While employees at other Ford plants collectively have supported the contract, Torrence Avenue employees rejected it.
Previously, Emanuel made job announcements with United Airlines, Motorola, GE Capital, Allscripts, Walgreens, EMC and Chase bank.
