A mother and her son were seriously injured Tuesday morning in a home invasion and shooting in Chicago's Avondale neighborhood.
The woman and her high school-age son were shot in their apartment on the 3400 block of North Lawndale at about 8:40 a.m., police said. They were taken to Illinois Masonic Hospital in serious to critical condition.
Two suspects were arrested and another was being questioned, police said.
The building's owner told the Chicago Tribune he found out about the home invasion and shooting from his upstairs tenant, who called him in tears.
The victims have lived in the lower unit for the past year and a half, he told the publication.
