Dad Shakes 5-Month-Old Baby: Cops

Dad Shakes 5-Month-Old Baby: Cops

Police arrested a man for allegedly shaking his 5-month-old baby.

Last Monday, 40-year-old Danilo Duran of Landsdale flagged down a police officer on Forty Foot and Allentown Road in Towamencin Township. Police say Duran told the officer he was trying to drive his 5-month-old child to the hospital because he had suffered a seizure.

The officer called an ambulance and both Duran and the child were taken to Grand View Hospital in West Rockhill Township.

Doctors soon discovered the child had two subdural hematomas (traumatic brain injuries). The child was taken to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and both Towamencin Police and Montgomery County Children and Youth services were notified. Police say further investigation suggested the child was suffering from “shaken baby syndrome.”

Detectives soon discovered Duran had sole care and custody over the child since 5:50 a.m. on Monday at a home on the 1900 block of Nashmont Court in Towamencin. He was arrested on Thursday and charged with aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of children and simple assault.

Duran was arraigned and committed to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 cash bail.

Police say the child continues to recover in the hospital.
