A man charged with murder in the crash death of a Philadelphia police officer is scheduled to go on trial.
Forty-four-year-old William Foster is scheduled for trial Monday in the November 2008 death of Sgt. Timothy Simpson.
Police say the Levittown man sped through a red light during a police pursuit and crashed into Simpson's cruiser. The 46-year-old sergeant died at a hospital.
Foster has a long list of petty charges, mostly drug and theft. Investigators say he was driving a stolen car at the time of the crash. His driver's license had been suspended for about a decade.
Foster is charged with third-degree murder, vehicular homicide and involuntary manslaughter.
Simpson was one of four Philadelphia police officers killed in the line of duty in 2008.
