Maritime Museum Sets Sail on Historic Celebration

The Maritime Museum of San Diego is celebrating maritime history with a variety of events in November.

The Star of India, the oldest active sailing ship in the world, will kick off the celebrations when she goes out to sea for her 148th birthday celebration. The public will have a chance to view this site from the Maritime Museum of San Diego on the Embarcadero.

Joining the Star of India will be the official tall ship of California, the Californian, along with the HMS Surprise. Tickets for guests to sail on the Californian will be available for $125 each or $100 for museum members.

Also making an appearance to celebrate the historic occasion will be diving legend Torrance Parker, author of 20,000 Jobs Under the Sea.

A unique collection of Mark V diving helmets will be on display throughout the weekend, along with the world’s oldest complete set of diving equipment. Retired Navy and Civilian divers will also be giving demonstrations in the water.

The maritime history celebrations will take place on November 12 and 13. For more information, or to purchase tickets, visit the Maritime Museum of San Diego’s website.
