Students at Lyons Township High School wore all black Monday in honor of a freshman classmate killed last week in her home.
Kelli O'Laughlin, 14, is believed to have walked in on a burglary in progress between 4:45 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the home in the 6300 block of Keokuk Road. O'Laughlin was found stabbed to death by her mother.
Indian Head Park police continue to search for the suspect, described as a black man between 5-8 or 5-9, 25-35 years old with a medium build and wearing a dark hoodie.
Police said the suspect got away with several rare coins, including some from a Las Vegas casino, and may try to sell them. Detectives ask that anyone who happens to spot the coins or the suspect call police immediately.
A vigil was held Friday night for O'Laughlin as police searched for clues that will lead them toward her killer.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday in Hallowell & James Funeral Home, 1025 W. 55th St., in Countryside. Mass will be said Friday at St. John of the Cross Church, 5005 Wolf Road, in Western Springs.
White ribbons were tied around trees in her honor, and grief counselors were on hand Monday for students and staff.
