Protesters Say They'll Overstay Permit

A four-day protest in Freedom Plaza may continue longer than originally planned.

Protest organizer Maria Allwine tells The Associated Press that the demonstrators' permit with the National Park Service expires at 10 p.m. Sunday. But she says protesters intend to stay overnight

Sunday and remain there indefinitely. She calls it an "occupation'' and says the protesters are taking good care of the plaza.

The October 2011 Stop the Machine demonstration was scheduled to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the start of the war in Afghanistan and carries an anti-war and anti-corporate greed

message.

A U.S. Park Police spokesman had no immediate comment on what police plan to do if protesters overstay their permit.
