A New York City police officer narrowly escaped being shot by jamming his finger under the hammer of a suspect's revolver during a violent struggle.
Police say two officers pulled over a speeding car early Saturday in Brooklyn and asked two passengers to step out of the vehicle. While an officer was frisking one of the passengers, he felt a gun in the man's waistband. A struggle ensued and police say the suspect pressed the revolver against the officer's stomach and pulled the trigger several times. But the officer had jammed his finger between the gun's hammer and cylinder, preventing it from firing.
The suspect was subdued and arrested on charges of attempted murder of a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a controlled substance.
