Prospect Park Zoo Debuts Dwarf Mongoose

The Prospect Park Zoo counts this ugly-but-cute dwarf mongoose among its latest additions.

The squirrel-sized critter and its five other family members previously lived at the Wildlife Conservation Society's Central Park Zoo. Visitors can now see them in Prospect Park's Lives building.

Dwarf mongoose are native to the grasslands of southern Africa and are the continent’s smallest carnivore.

The highly social species usually lives its life in extended family groups of up to more than two dozen animals.
