Officials are celebrating the ties between Delaware and Sweden in royal style.
Prince Daniel, husband of Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden, was to be the guest of honor Thursday afternoon at a reception in Wilmington. The prince's visit highlights the historic ties between Sweden and Delaware, which date to 17th-century colonial settlers.
The event also features Sweden's ambassador to the United States. Organizers said the visit, which includes stops in Washington and New York City, marks Prince Daniel's first official program in the United States.
Princess Victoria is pregnant with the couple's first child and unable to make the trip.
Victoria married Daniel Westling, a commoner and her former personal trainer, in June 2010.
