Damp, Chilly Day for Tri-State With Snowflakes in Spots

It's going to be a wet one.

Waves of rain will push across the tri-state, making for a soggy Thursday. While most of the rain today will be on the light side, there will be some periods of steadier downpours.

Overall, most of the area is looking at between a quarter and three-quarters of an inch of rain.

A raw northerly wind will accompany the dreary weather, causing a side-swept rain at times, especially in open areas.

Temperatures started off relatively mild early this morning in the 50s, but as the day wears on, temperatures will fall into the 40s.

As colder air arrives tonight, a few of the rain showers will mix in with some wet snow flakes well north and west of the city.

The best chances for a few wet snowflakes this evening would be across the higher elevations of Orange, Sullivan, and Dutchess counties, along with the higher elevations of northwest New Jersey.

At this point, forecasters do not expect any snow accumulation.Rain showers and any early snowflakes north and west will push out quickly overnight.

Behind the rain, the air will turn chilly. The National Weather Service has posted freeze warnings for Fairfield, Rockland, Putnam, Orange, northern Passaic and northern Westchester counties from 2 a.m. Friday until 10 a.m.

A hard freeze warning has been posted for Sullivan County until 10 a.m. Friday and a frost advisory has been posted for Suffolk, Bergen, Union, southern Passaic and Union counties.

The sun returns tomorrow, but the cool temperatures linger. Expect a bright and blustery Friday with highs only around 50 degrees in the city and the upper 40s in the northwest suburbs.

Another storm may impact parts of the area on Saturday. Right now, most of the computer models deliver another round of rain, mainly to the city and coast into late Saturday night.

Expect highs only in the upper 40s on Saturday.
