The wave of protesters in New York against Wall Street has sparked action in Philadelphia. A crowd of nearly 1000 supporters turned out for an organized meeting Tuesday night for Occupy Philadelphia.
During the meeting, which took place at a Center City church, the group discussed joblessness, corporate greed and cuts to worker wages and benefits. They plan to protest outside City Hall Thursday at 9 a.m.
Some protesters are prepared to rally and camp overnight in the same way protesters in New York have maintained an around the clock stance on Wall Street.
A legal representative handed out pamphlets explaining the rights of protesters during Tuesday’s meeting.
Over the weekend, about 700 protesters were arrested in New York after an attempt to march over the Brooklyn Bridge.
