The wet weather didn't dampen the spirits at the White House State Dinner for South Korean president Lee Myung-Bak.
The First Lady wore an asymmetrical, violet gown by a Korean-American designer Doo-Ri Chung.
The jersey dress had a modest slit up the side. Mrs. Obama wore minimal jewelry, topping the entire ensemble with a black and crystal belt.
About 200 people attended the formal affair, that started under rainy skies. Many of the hems on the guests' floor-length gowns were soaked and men's tuxedo's also got wet.
"She looks spectacular and modern," Joanna Coles, editor-in-chief of Marie Claire, told the AP, "and her arms look incredible.''
Coles said Chung, who is based in New York, was a good choice as a designer for this event. "Doo-Ri is someone who has done award ceremonies and the circuit. She knows how important it is for women to have a good dress in their arsenal.''
