The Arlington County Board is considering whether to raise the basic taxi fare by 25 cents and add another 50 cents for each passenger 12 or older, reported the Washington Post.
Under the plan, cabs would be required to accept credit card payments by April 1, 2012.
The fare hike would be the first since 2008. But even with the increase, taxis in the county would be less expensive than almost everywhere else in the Washington region.
The County Board still needs to set a public hearing on the proposal.
