The Occupy LA movement is expanding to Van Nuys, but LAPD officials told NBC LA that new campgrounds will not be tolerated.
"That discussion will be had with everybody so everybody understands that, you know, we've made concessions (at city hall downtown)," said LAPD Chief Charlie Beck. "This is a good point for people to understand that this is the best contact point to put your piece forward."
Beginning Saturday, the protesters plan to set up at the Van Nuys Civic Center.
"It's just an expansion, equivalent to our northern front in our movement to get social and economic justice," Occupy La General Assembly member Mario Brito said.
The nationwide protest against what organizers view as corporate greed set up shop Oct. 3 on the lawns around Los Angeles City Hall.
LA's encampment has been peaceful, but the same cannot be said of San Diego's Occupy movement. More than 50 protestors were arrested early Friday when police cleared the crowd, citing concerns of public safety and sanitation.
In Northern California, Iraq War veteran Scott Olsen is still recovering after being hit in the head by a police projectile during an Occupy Oakland protest on Tuesday. His injury is still fresh on the minds of those in LA.
"I myself am absolutely disgusted," Occupy LA security member Emilio Arreola said. "This Iraq war vet survived two tours to get popped in the head by a police bean bag. It's disgusting that happened."
