Southern California has been home to a lot of restaurant start-ups. McDonald's is perhaps the most famous, opening its first location in San Bernardino in 1940.
In Riverside, a former executive from the parent company of El Torito is hoping to find success with Inland Empire diners. Ray Garcia Sr. is opening Mazz Bar & Grill in the Riverside Plaza.
Not only is Garcia investing a significant amount of money remodeling the space, he needs to hire 80 people. The restaurant is set to open on December 1. Mazz will offer table service and buffet-style food. The jobs range from minimum wage plus tips, to higher salaries for hosts and managers.
The restaurant will hold a mini-job fair on Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Riverside Plaza, at the former Borders Books location. Ray Garcia says he expects to expand, and do it quickly. Current plans call for a new Mazz restaurant to open every 18 months, with most of the locations in the Inland Empire.
