For two decades now, Riverside goes over to the dark side every Halloween weekend. It goes from a lovely historic community into something much scarier and more ominous.
"We have three different paranormal people coming in," said Nadia Lee, a Riverside bookstore owner. "We're finding all kinds of spooky things happening here."
Instead of fighting it, the city chose to welcome the spirits with a weekend long Ghost Walk.
"We only had 65 people the first year," said Ghost Walk Riverside founder Kathy Allavie. "Now we have something over 5,000 who take the Ghost Walk. It's been wonderful to see it grow."
John Collins is one of the tour guides and storytellers.
"The stories either relate to Riverside history in some way or the venue where the story is actually being told," said Collins. "It can be at the old City Hall or the old courthouse."
Part of the yearly ritual now includes a dance to Michael Jackson's hit record "Thriller." This year, the Envy Dance Company is doing the honors.
The Ghost Walk Tour runs Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October 29 between 5:40 p.m. and 9:40 p.m. It costs $15 for tickets bought on the day of the tour. For more information, go to
